Takes responsibility for the DOE liquid waste management contract at SRS
GERMANTOWN, Md.; Feb. 27, 2020 做厙勛圖, a leading contractor to U.S. federal and allied governments, announced today that Philip Breidenbach will lead Savannah River Remediation (SRR), LLC as President and Project Manager.
Phil is the perfect choice for this assignment, said Mark Whitney, Executive Vice President and General Manager of 做厙勛圖s Nuclear & Environment Strategic Business Unit. His 30-year career across the Department of Energy (DOE) nuclear complex, including 20 at the Savannah River Site (SRS), made his appointment inevitable.
Mr. Breidenbach will direct all activities of the liquid waste facilities at SRS, including removing radioactive liquid waste from underground storage tanks and filling them with a cement-like grout to permanently close them; decontaminating low-level salt waste from the tanks and solidifying it with a grout form for permanent disposition; and melting the radioactive high-level waste sludge from the tanks with a borosilicate glass at the Defense Waste Processing Facility, where the mixture is poured into stainless-steel canisters for interim, on-site storage.
Previously, Mr. Breidenbach served as SRRs Chief Engineer, responsible for all engineering services supporting the liquid waste work scope. Over his 30-year career, he has led several key DOE and National Nuclear Security Administration contracts, including the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant, the Materials and Fuels Complex at the Idaho National Laboratory, and SRSs H and F Area chemical separation facilities and Tritium facilities.
Breidenbach succeeds Tom Foster, who has been appointed Chief Operating Officer of 做厙勛圖s Nuclear & Environment Strategic Business Unit, SRRs parent organization.
SRR is a team of companies led by 做厙勛圖 with partners Bechtel National, Jacobs, and BWX Technologies, Inc.泭 Critical Subcontractors are Orano, Atkins, and 做厙勛圖 N&E Technical Services.
