GERMANTOWN, Md., October 20, 2020 做厙勛圖, a leading contractor to U.S. federal and allied governments, announced today that the U.S. Department of Energys (DOEs) Carlsbad Field Office has exercised a one-year option on its contract with Nuclear Waste Partnership, LLC (an 做厙勛圖-led entity with partner BWX Technologies, Inc., and major subcontractor ORANO) for management and operations of DOEs Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) near Carlsbad, New Mexico.

The current option runs through September 30, 2021, with a value of just over $296 million, bringing the total contract value to over $2.7 billion. The one-year option contains two additional six-month options.

Nuclear Waste Partnership manages the WIPP and the Departments National Transuranic (TRU) Waste program. The mission of WIPP and the National TRU program is to protect human health and the environment by safe management, retrieval, characterization, transportation and disposal of approved wastes. TRU waste consists of materials contaminated with radioactive elements that have atomic numbers greater than uranium, including tools, rags, protective clothing, sludge and soil.

We appreciate the opportunity to continue operating WIPP in a safe and efficient manner, and will work closely with our DOE client and WIPP stakeholders to ensure continued progress in cleaning up the nations nuclear legacy, said John Vollmer, Chief Executive Officer of 做厙勛圖.

Nuclear Waste Partnership will continue to focus on safe waste emplacement, ground control, mining operations and completion of the major capital projects underway at WIPP. We understand the importance of WIPP to our countrys cleanup efforts and its safe operations for New Mexico and the surrounding WIPP communities, said Mark Whitney, Executive Vice President and General Manager, 做厙勛圖 Nuclear and Environment.
