At °µÍø³Ô¹Ï, we celebrate our people, our cultures, and we recognize the value of diversity and inclusion. In March, we’ll focus on Women’s History Month while shining a light on one employee at a time.Ìý Today’s Q&A is with Angela John, Financial Analyst, Engineering, Science & Technology (ES&T) group.

How did you come to join °µÍø³Ô¹Ï?

I was employed previously with another government contractor and took the opportunity to join °µÍø³Ô¹Ï through a legacy company, URS, nine years ago.

What is your professional and personal background?

I have a Master of Business Administration and have worked as an analyst for 17 years.

Describe the work you do and how you think it makes a positive impact.Ìý

In my role, I have always supported a team primarily based in Hawaii, and currently manage the financials on a $117 million contract.  We have staff performing mission critical work all over the world. Knowing that I am contributing to something much bigger than myself is a great feeling!

What are some of your accomplishments and/or what has been your proudest career moment?

I am proud of the great relationships I have formed with a team that is located thousands of miles away from the US mainland in Hawaii. Despite residing in the Midwest, and the significant time zone difference between us, I have been able to be extremely responsive and flexible to my team’s needs.

What do you enjoy about working for °µÍø³Ô¹Ï?

I enjoy the variety my position has. While some tasks are the same, I encounter new things each day which allows me to continually learn and grow.

What are you passionate about?

I am passionate about the relationships in my life, specifically those with my friends, family and my miniature schnauzer, Daisy.

What’s your career advice?

Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Reach out to your peers, they are a great source of information. Don’t back away from a challenge. Don’t freeze, even the smallest step forward is progress and can build momentum.

What does safety mean to you or do you have a favorite safety tip?

Since my position with °µÍø³Ô¹Ï involves spending hours at a desk, I have invested in a great office chair and an adjustable standing desk. I have found that alternating between sitting and standing really makes quite a difference, not only for my personal comfort and physical health, but also for my productivity.

What’s the best invention in the world and why?

The computer – no need to say anything else!

Anything else you would like to share from a personal or professional perspective?

You will make mistakes and it is okay. The real growth happens once you take that mistake and use it as a learning moment to improve.

What does Women’s History Month mean to you?

It is a month to learn and reflect on the accomplishments of women over the years. It is also a time to observe how their impact on society is being experienced today.
