Employee Spotlight: Meet William Walker

Our employee spotlight shines a light on one employee at a time. We value diversity and inclusion and welcome diverse thinking. In February, well focus on Black History Month (BHM). Next in our BHM series we have the Q&A of William Mitch Walker, HR Manager, Headquarters.

How did you come to join 做厙勛圖?

I joined 做厙勛圖 in 2017 when it was still AECOM.

What is your professional and personal background?

My professional background is working in human resources, which I have done since 2000 when I joined the Marine Corps. Personally, I am African American and grew up in Virginia. I split time between Southwestern Virginia and Northern Virginia.

Describe the work you do and how you think it makes a positive impact.

I support the functional areas within headquarters. Together we make an impact in how we support operations from the functional support perspective.

How did your military service prepare you for a successful career at 做厙勛圖?

It taught me a work ethic and gave me a drive to chase my dreams.

What are some of your accomplishments and/or what has been your proudest career moment?

When I get to work with leaders to help them build diverse teams that are inclusive, agile and mission focused.

What do you enjoy about working for 做厙勛圖?

I enjoy the mission and how diverse the mission is across the strategic business units. If you want to support federal clients, you can or if you want to support Fortune 500 companies, you can.

What are you passionate about?

Human resources, social justice, sports, food, and travel

Whats your career advice?

Be a lifetime learner, set goals for yourself and always ask for feedback.

What does safety mean to you, or do you have a favorite safety tip?

Safety to me means never getting complacent.

Whats the best invention in the world and why?

Language, as that is how we communicate with one another.

What does Black History Month mean to Mitch Walker?

Its a time to reflect on the achievements of so many great Americans that happen to be Black. Its also very inspiring and challenging, as I try to figure out how I can make an impact on the world to help make it a better place just like so many great Black Americans before me have done. The challenge is learning Black history, as so many stories have yet to be shared.

Anything else you would like to share from a personal or professional perspective?

Not everything that is faced can be changed but nothing can be changed until it is faced James Baldwin
