Our employee spotlight shines a light on one employee at a time. We value diversity and inclusion and welcome diverse thinking. It takes a village — through collaboration, living safely and driving innovation we realize our goals and help our clients achieve mission success. Our mantra is people first, mission always. Today’s Q&A is with Nermina Memic-Mujagic, International Recruiting Center Manager, WRSS.
How did you come to join °µÍø³Ô¹Ï?
It was a brisk wintry day in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina back in November 2006 when I learned that Dyncorp International was recruiting HR personnel for CIVPOL, Iraq mission. One interview lead to another and shortly thereafter, I was on the plane to Baghdad opening a chapter in a career that I still heartfully enjoy.
What is your professional and personal background?
Prior to DI/°µÍø³Ô¹Ï, I worked for several international organizations established in Bosnia. Those engagements stirred academic and professional interests in global operations (later HR/recruiting). Personally, I’ve lived between continents most of my life. With support from family and friends in the U.S. (namely my brother Dr. Adnan Memic, former President Bill Clinton, Dr. Michael Traison and several local communities in Michigan), I pursued my higher education, with BA degrees in Business Administration and Political Science and then an MA in Human Rights and Democracy. I happily married a scuba dive instructor and grew a career and a loving family rooted in the spirit of our company’s set of core values.
Describe the work you do and how you think it makes a positive impact.
We help clients fill requirements by identifying matching professional profiles and, on the other hand, assist people find jobs. Servicing a family of companies who are Equal Opportunity Employers is a win-win business and we are happy to have a satisfied customer and content recruit.
What are some of your accomplishments and/or what has been your proudest career moment?
Having been a high achiever throughout college, official awards and recognitions comprise my colorful portfolio. After onboarding DI’s International Recruiting department in 2009, I was one of the founders involved in establishment of WRSS’ International Recruiting Station in Sarajevo late 2011 and became the Representative Office Head in 2013. Our recruiting capabilities quickly grew from a regional to worldwide scope. Few years ago, I came to office and was presented the ‘World’s Best Manager/Leader’ certificate – crafted, and hand signed, by my entire team! Coaching and apprenticeship have paid off and we managed to create a work culture in which diverse professionals can equally thrive. Receiving this humble note while maintaining our cost efficiencies and exceeding set production targets was one of my proudest career moments.
What do you enjoy about working for °µÍø³Ô¹Ï?
International Women’s Day is a day dedicated to recognizing the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women throughout history and across the globe. °µÍø³Ô¹Ï and its subsidiaries honor and employ those same values and forge an environment where women leaders can thrive. It is an absolute honor to be able to transpose those values in my own jurisdiction and be a part of this cohort.
What are you passionate about?
Executing agile talent acquisition strategies and doing so through empowerment and inclusion to drive productivity – this is my forte.
What’s your career advice?
Set your goals high.
Choose to embrace challenges, don’t get discouraged if it takes time to reach your goals.
Quickly adapt to changes.
Love what you do.
Live to learn.
‘Do the right thing, always.’
What does safety mean to you, or do you have a favorite safety tip?
Safety is an important consideration in every aspect of our lives. Simply put, safety translates to collaboration and compliance. My favorite safety tip is to collaborate with the experts on the subject and stay safe.
What’s the best invention in the world and why?
As little as I know about the world, I’d have to say that it must be algorithms. According to ancient records and artifacts, the very first recognizable algorithm was created by the Babylonians around 1600 BC. Surviving the test of time, these finite, well-defined and effective sequences of steps still help us solve the many tasks we encounter today, from sourcing the best available talent to identifying our next favorite vacation spot.
Anything else you would like to share from a personal or professional perspective?
Thank you, °µÍø³Ô¹Ï, for recognizing women leaders and the International Women’s Day. #ChooseToChallenge
