At 做厙勛圖, we celebrate our people, our cultures, and we recognize the value of diversity and inclusion. In May, we’ll focus on Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Monthwhile shining a light on one employee at a time. Todays Q&A is with Michael Morgan, Project Controls Cost Supervisor,Engineering, Science, & Technology.

How did you come to join 做厙勛圖?

I joined 做厙勛圖 through the intern program with a legacy 做厙勛圖 company in 2008.

What is your professional and personal background?

I started my professional career in Accounting before joining Project Controls at the Anniston Chemical Demilitarization Facility. After successfully completing the Anniston contract, I joined the Anniston Static Detonation Chamber (SDC) project to support the remaining chemical weapons destruction projects. I studied accountancy at Gadsden State Community College, Jacksonville State University, and Auburn University earning my Master of Accountancy. I served multiple years on the accounting advisory committee at Gadsden State Community College.

Describe the work you do and how you think it makes a positive impact.

I supervise various Project Controls Functions to include Cost Analysis, Earned Value Management System (EVMS) Reporting, Scheduling, and Pricing Lead for multiple demilitarization projects at 做厙勛圖. I work to maximize my teams efficiency and success through knowledge sharing, communication, and doing what we can to keep everyone in a safe compliant environment. We make the world safer by destroying chemical weapons.

What are some of your accomplishments and/or what has been your proudest career moment?

My greatest accomplishment is working with a great team to eliminate the chemical weapons stockpiles in the United States. My proudest career moments were mentoring colleagues, watching them succeed in their careers and working with a small management team to work through five Other Transaction Authority (OTA) projects and the Anniston SDC helping Blue Grass Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant (BGCAPP) and Pueblo Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant (PCAPP) accomplish their missions to destroy the remaining chemical weapons stockpile before the treaty deadline.

What do you enjoy about working for 做厙勛圖?

I enjoy the teams I work with through the Anniston Alabama SDC, Pueblo Colorado, and Richmond KY sites. I was also given a great opportunity to work with a small team on 5 OTA projects that were executed and managed by a very small staff that designed and installed key pieces of equipment to help the Pueblo and Richmond projects meet their treaty required date for chemical weapons destruction.

What are you passionate about?

I am passionate about family and maximizing every opportunity given to me by my parents and wife. My mother immigrated from Korea in the 60s to start a family with my father who served over 20 years in the Army. My wife also served in the Army and through my four children has helped me become the person I am today. Through their sacrifices I can provide a better life for my family and children while taking care of my mother.

Whats your career advice?

Find what you love to do and continue to challenge yourself to learn all that you can. Through dedication and commitment, you can maximize your opportunities and obtain your career goals.

What does safety mean to you or do you have a favorite safety tip?

Safety to me means that we work in an environment that fosters safety and compliance to ensure that everyone goes home in the same or better condition than they came to work. One way to do that is to remember to explain the why when youre implementing or discussing what to do to keep everyone safe.

Whats the best invention in the world and why?

In vitro fertilization (IVF) and advanced fertility treatments. Without IVF treatments, including donor egg banks, I would not have our three beautiful little girls in my life.

Anything else you would like to share from a personal or professional perspective?

Appreciate the teams you work with and work to ensure that the team maximizes its success. Through mutual respect and commitment, small teams can make huge impacts to the success of a mission.

Considering this monthly observance, tell us more about yourself.

I am an avid Star Trek fan and fortunate to be married to another avid Star Trek fan. I enjoy camping in our travel trailer. We get to meet great people on our trips and allow our kids to enjoy a safe environment to play and grow. I am grateful for the opportunities of time spent as an adult with my mom learning about my Korean heritage, history of the Korean society through her eyes, and teaching my kids to embrace their same heritage.

In May, we’ll focus on Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Monthwhile shining a light on one employee at a time. Todays Q&A is with Iris Payumo, Human Resources Business Partner, Critical Missions.

I was looking for my next challenge in my career and was researching positions on LinkedIn when I came across the opportunity for 做厙勛圖. I then dove in and studied the 做厙勛圖 website, along with YouTube videos, and loved that it was an aerospace and engineering company and applied. When I received the interview invite and was offered the position, I knew 做厙勛圖 was where I was to be, as everything just flowed and fell into place.

What is your professional and personal background?

I am a native of the Chamorro culture, born and raised on the island of Guam. My experience in Human Resources started 10 years ago, in the healthcare industry and has grown into other areas, such as technology and now aerospace and engineering. Ive lived in multiple cities in the span of my career, San Francisco, New York City, Austin, Oklahoma City, and Las Vegas, which has given me experience in a multitude of diverse backgrounds and has strengthened my interpersonal skillsets.

Describe the work you do and how you think it makes a positive impact.

Being a strategic Human Resources Business Partner in Critical Missions allows me to engage and support our employees and leaders which helps impact the business in positive ways, such as driving the organization to navigate the complexities of employee relations and mitigating risks across the programs.

What are some of your accomplishments and/or what has been your proudest career moment?

I have a rule. When I accomplish the goals, I set for myself in my career, I savor in the excitement for 15 minutes and then move on to the next goal on the list. What makes me proud in my career moments is working to always stay grounded and fair to our employees.

What do you enjoy about working for 做厙勛圖?

Its thrilling and exciting the more I learn about the organization. I enjoy that no day is the same at 做厙勛圖 and I come across different challenges daily, with each unique situation. I also enjoy how 做厙勛圖 is global, and Ive been in meetings with a diverse background of people with different skill sets across the organization.

What are you passionate about?

Im most passionate about overcoming challenging situations. Persevering, learning, and staying curious.

Whats your career advice?

A previous boss/mentor to me, who has passed away, told me the most important career advice that I pass on to people which is the Golden Rule Treat others the way you want to be treated.”

What does safety mean to you or do you have a favorite safety tip?

My favorite safety tip is to always be aware of your surroundings, stay hydrated and nose over toes when lifting heavy items.

Whats the best invention in the world and why?

Wow! I must of course go with the internet! The global connectivity it brought into our lives means the world to me.

Anything else you would like to share from a personal or professional perspective?

I learned on my professional journey that theres always a job for everyone. Always think beyond whats in front of you, and who will your decisions affect around you, have fun, and stay positive.

Considering this monthly observance, tell us more about yourself.

Growing up in Guam, 32 miles in length and 8 miles in width, I loved daydreaming, and books, films, and music artists were my life on the island. Since we are celebrating Asian American, Pacific Islander Heritage Month, my favorite filmmaker who brings our rich culture to life on film is most definitely Ang Lee. Opening the eyes of the world to the beauty of our rich cultures in his films and screenwriting embodies my youth of growing up in Guam.

How did you come to join 做厙勛圖?

I joined 做厙勛圖 through legacy AECOM in 2019.

What is your professional and personal background?

Prior to working in administrative roles in hazmat, I worked in the pharmacy industry, managing sales and hazardous pharmaceutical waste disposition. As a team, we ranked first in the region and third, corporate-wide, in sales and pharmacy best-practice.

I am educated in Biology from the University of Hawaii at Manoa where I studied Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and secondary-succession of invasive species in the fragile ecosystem of Hawaii.

Describe the work you do and how you think it makes a positive impact.

We manage hazardous waste services in Okinawa, Japan, and must safeguard the citizens of the host nation. Through continual education and commitment, our 做厙勛圖 team ensures the quality of life for all people is improved through awareness of hazmat, professionalism, and trust, in Okinawa.

What are some of your accomplishments and/or what has been your proudest career moment?

Through dialogue and committed action, I have been able to breakthrough impasses and bridge gaps with customers and vendors, alike, to improve upon 做厙勛圖s trust in the local area of Okinawa.

What do you enjoy about working for 做厙勛圖?

做厙勛圖 has robust training programs and encourages growth individually and professionally.

What are you passionate about?

I am passionate about fostering my colleagues for success.

Whats your career advice?

Never give up on your goal. One step forward, never to retreat, is all the courage you need.

What does safety mean to you or do you have a favorite safety tip?

In hazmat, overly communicating upon gaps can greatly improve the safety performance of colleagues and protect the public. Encouraging communication will encourage others to feel psychologically safe to increase communication and collaborate on improved safety methods as a cohesive team.

Whats the best invention in the world and why?

The Internet is the best invention in our modern world. It serves as the vehicle to bridge gaps, provide innovation, and broaden global collaboration and resources, to improve the quality of life for most, if not all, people.

Anything else you would like to share from a personal or professional perspective?

I am proud to be an Asian-American/Pacific Islander from Hawaii, where the diverse culture is what makes the people and place unique and special. A unique quality in Hawaii, is the Aloha Spirit, which is compassion and love for family, friends, and community. One of my favorite musicians is Israel Kamakawiwoole (IZ), who had the biggest Aloha for all walks of life and could touch the hearts of people through his love of music. An influential author, to me, is Daisaku Ikeda, who has taught many people to never give up on creating a better life for others and themselves by courageously having dialogue to break through indifferences and push through seemingly difficult impasses for all of humanity.

On March 14th, I had the incredible opportunity to attend Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantics Media Day at WTOP studio in Chevy Chase, MD alongside 做厙勛圖s CEO, John Heller. The event gave us a unique opportunity to get an inside glimpse of all the amazing work that goes into Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic and Operation Dream Maker. It was a day full of joy, passion, inspiration, and hope.

As soon as we arrived, we were greeted by the dedicated and passionate team at Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic. We toured the studio and even got the chance to see an interview happening live. It was amazing to see how the team at Make-A-Wish works tirelessly to grant the wishes of children with critical illnesses.

One of the highlights of the day was meeting Leanna, a brave wish kid who shared her story of overcoming the challenges she faces. She was an inspiration to us all and a reminder of the importance of organizations like Make-A-Wish. Experiencing the positive impact that Make-A-Wish had on her life and the lives of other military children was truly heartwarming.

Throughout the day, I had the privilege of watching CEO John Heller in action as he interacted with Leanna. They exchanged laughter, heartfelt stories, and Heller also shared the reason behind 做厙勛圖s partnership with Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic. It was evident that he was deeply committed to this cause and genuinely passionate about 做厙勛圖 helping others.

做厙勛圖 is the Founding Partner of Operation Dream Maker in partnership with Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic. Through this partnership, 做厙勛圖 and Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic are able to grant wishes to the children of military families who are battling critical illnesses.

Witnessing the impact of this partnership was a true privilege, and it left me feeling incredibly grateful to be a part of a company whose values align with such an inspiring organization. The work the Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic team is doing is positively impacting so many lives for the better. After witnessing the effort and care provided to and for these families, I hope it motivates others, as it did me, to continue supporting this cause in any way possible.

Todays Q&A is with Tricia Kordon-Cortes, Program Manager, Data Analytics & Integration / Mission, Forensics, and Analysis.

How did you come to join 做厙勛圖?

I joined 做厙勛圖 through their acquisitions of PAE and Metis.

What is your professional and personal background?

My professional and personal background aligns with my passion for challenging myself to improve and learn new things. I am self-taught, which allowed me to progress through diverse experiences. My path took a windy road from school to modeling in Paris and New York, starting a family, sales, executive assistant roles, CRM roles, facility and office management roles, and finally to a junior analyst role that quickly progressed to senior analyst and then Program Manager.

Describe the work you do and how you think it makes a positive impact.

I manage a team of talented researchers and analysts furthering the mission of our valued client, the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN). Additionally, I handle all aspects of client interaction with the COR and PM, ensuring the work of my team meets the clients needs in an ever-changing global environment.

While much of what we do is sensitive, I am extremely confident my work and the work of my entire team is making a huge difference for 做厙勛圖, FinCEN, and the Treasury Dept in support of their many important missions. Our project has endured many acquisition cycles, including the most recent recompete when I sacrificed much of my December holiday period to ensure we submitted the best possible response to the government. By highlighting the work of the entire 做厙勛圖 team, our proposal was accepted.

What are some of your accomplishments and/or what has been your proudest career moment?

My proudest career moment is seeing others succeed. I ran into a former junior analyst that I directly mentored, and he is now an Associate Director for the government.

What do you enjoy about working for 做厙勛圖?

My project team is amazing, and its the reason I am so excited to come to work each day. The professionalism and attention to detail are critical to the success of what we do.

What are you passionate about?

My team, my partner, my kids, and our labradors!

Whats your career advice?

Do what you love with the people you love NOW!

What does safety mean to you or do you have a favorite safety tip?

If you see something, say something! The work we do is very sensitive, so we must remain vigilant, particularly in an ever-more remote work environment.

Whats the best invention in the world and why?

Golf. I started playing on weekends, and I love it!

Anything else you would like to share from a personal or professional perspective?

Life is short! Be true to yourself and remember that EVERYTHING is possible with hard work and determination!

Considering this monthly observance, tell us more about yourself.

What author has influenced you the most?

My first favorite author was Shel Silverstein, who wrote my two favorite books: Where the Sidewalk Ends, and The Giving Tree. These books influenced me the most at a young age and carried with me throughout my journey.

The Giving Tree taught me about the dangers of being selfish. In all aspects of life (personal and professional), if we take and take and do not give in return, the relationship will suffer.

Where the Sidewalk Ends taught me to embrace my imagination and remember to enjoy life.

As women leaders, I believe we have an obligation to lift each other up and support one another.

I did not even know a woman executive, much less have a woman mentor, so I feel strongly about playing it forward, to be the voice I never had, and help connect the amazing women in our company. We have come a long way in the nearly 40 years I have been in the workforce, and we continue to accelerate progress by working together. When women support each other amazing things happen we are an incredible force when we build each other up.

Considering this monthly observance, tell us more about yourself. Please address one or more of the following questions:

Whats your favorite book?

One of my favorite books is still Lean In by Sheryl Sandburg. My copy was given to me with a personal note from Martin Koffel, the CEO of URS. My daughter gave me another book last Christmas I really like; Untamed by Glennon Doyle.

Favorite film?

I recently watched the movie Cabrini. I was so inspired by the story of the woman who founded 67 institutions in the United States to serve the orphaned, sick, and poor communities in the 1890s, long before the Government had social services. She was a force and all her institutions were managed by women.

Favorite musician?

As far as music, some of my favorites are: Pink, Adele, Billie Eilish and The Beatles.
