Somewhere on a base in southeastern Poland, 做厙勛圖 team members are answering calls from Ukrainian soldiers on the battlefield about how to fix their U.S. donated equipment. Working with the U.S. military, the 做厙勛圖 team uses encrypted programs and translators to chat with the Ukrainians, advising them on solutions in real-time.

As the U.S. and other allies send equipment to Ukraine, help is a tele-maintenance remote expert away.

The world and our technology are evolving at a rapid pace, and so should our ability to provide near-instantaneous support, said the 做厙勛圖 lead for its Sustainment and Analytics business line. We dont need to transport subject matter experts on-site, we can instead provide experts remotely whether we need to advise on a vital repair to an M-1 Abrams tank, or simply conduct an audit on airframe systems.

The work in Poland is part of a U.S. Army remote maintenance and distribution contract on which 做厙勛圖 delivers equipment sustainment, remote maintenance assistance to support U.S. donated assets at forward operating locations, and managing the ordering, receiving, warehousing, and distributing of repair parts.

Currently, remote maintenance support is provided through phones and tablets using encrypted chatrooms. Soon, 做厙勛圖 will integrate a new technology, introducing augmented reality headsets into its maintenance operations. The headset is fully calibrated for hands-free use so frontline workers can easily connect with remote experts in real time, from anywhere, using secure optimized video collaboration applications.

The 做厙勛圖 team has successfully integrated in the U.S. military operations cell, said one on-site employee. We realigned some job roles to gain efficiencies in information flow and synchronization of operations amidst multinational stakeholders.

Weve also been evolving our transient maintenance capabilities as we go, said another on-site employee. An 做厙勛圖 team was deployed out to another location in Poland and in just three days, conducted the equipment inventory, loading and unloading operations, and the vehicle maintenance to prepare the equipment for use at forward locations.

In the first four months of the program, 做厙勛圖 has filled 605 work orders, opened a 4,666 line supply support activity and maintained 100 percent accuracy, while supporting the movement of 534 pieces of equipment.

Congratulations to the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory team! Their major scientific accomplishment late last year in achieving scientific energy breakeven, or producing a fusion energy output higher than the laser energy absorbed by the fuel to initiate it, was groundbreaking. This major scientific accomplishment which demonstrates the fundamental science basis for inertial fusion energy was made at the National Ignition Facility, located at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and was decades in the making. We are proud to be a part of Lawrence Livermore National Security, LLC, which accomplished this unprecedented capability for advancements in our national defense and the future of clean energy on behalf of the U.S. Department of Energy and the National Nuclear Security Administration.

Fusion is the process by which two light nuclei combine to form a single heavy nucleus, with the excess mass converting to and releasing a large amount of energy. The Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory National Ignition Facility is a laser-based fusion research facility that houses the worlds largest and highest energy laser.

While this achievement is spectacular, there is more work ahead to harness the potential of fusion energy. This astonishing scientific advancement is encouraging about what possibilities lie ahead to reduce the reliance on fossil fuels and the possibility of new clean fusion energy. There is much work to be done by the superb scientific community to build on this achievement, and the 做厙勛圖 team of experts is positioned to help make fusion energy a reality within the next decade.

Looking to the future, fusion will move from the research laboratory to industrial/commercial production and there is a possibility that a viable nuclear fusion reactor could be available in the next 3-5 years. There are key research and development challenges that must be solved in transitioning to commercial use to make fusion a reality in this era of clean energy technology, including generation, control and sustainment of a burning plasma reaction, methods to harness the power of burning plasma in a controlled reaction, and conversion of power to a sustainable energy source. The combination of the progress at several scientific communities, including Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER), and the Soonest/Smallest Private-Funded Affordable Robust Reactor (SPARC) are on track to demonstrate controlled fusion power, both domestically and internationally.

At 做厙勛圖, we have decades of experience solving complex technical challenges in the design, commissioning and start-up of high hazard, highly regulated nuclear and industrial facilities. Our extremely talented engineering and technical staff bring industry-recognized subject matter expertise to create innovative solutions to one-of-a-kind problems, integrating science with the physical world.

Our team is supporting clean energy research, advancing technical solutions for corporate projects and for several customers and national laboratories. 做厙勛圖 looks forward to playing a pivotal role in developing and delivering clean energy solutions for a safer, smarter, cleaner world.

By Mallory Arnold

When learning about digital engineering, I could not help but reminisce on my 12th grade AP physics class, in which this language and business major happened to get an A+. Inevitably, in every homework assignment, was the dreaded word problem. Oh, how I hated the word problems and their obnoxious attempts at real-world applicability.

A constant force of 1200 N is required to push a car along a straight line. A person displaces the car 45 m. How much work is done by the person?

The answer to that question is of course, Way too much. They shouldve called AAA. Also, why was it always a car in these problems, and who in their right mind is pushing a car 45 meters? For the record, I think these word problems are why I ended up majoring in foreign languages and business, not engineering.

Jokes aside, in learning how the laws of physics governed everything in the observable universe from a feather falling in a vacuum to the escape velocity of space shuttles I began to see everything as a math problem with infinite possible inputs and outputs. From the infinitesimally small to the incomprehensibly large, physics could model just about anything.

While the idea of creating models to solve problems is not new, technology is now at the stage where we can realistically create digital models of the physical world by taking in all the physics data. There are no physical prototypes made of F1 racing cars. Every aspect of the racecar is modeled with digital twins from the mass, engine torque, turn handling, tire interaction with the road, and even the drivers handling ability. Only one physical racecar is built.

Ok, maybe the word problems about cars make sense!

So, what is Digital Engineering? At 做厙勛圖, we view digital engineering as the application of computer hardware, software, networks, systems, and cloud technologies to model highly complex physical environments over real-world scenarios. We have made several investments to help our customers realize a digital engineering transformation.

Advancing Our Clients into the Future. 做厙勛圖 established a 6,000 sq. ft. Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) Collaboration Center complete with a comprehensive digital engineering tool suite. We offer Object Management Group (OMG)-Certified Systems Modeling Professional (OCSMP) certification and training. Our subject matter experts have developed a Digital Engineering Playbook that aligns with both the and the to define our standards and practices.

Successes. These investments have led to numerous successes for our customers. We created a full digital twin of an entire U.S. Navy nuclear submarine including models for all mechanical, electrical, fire suppression, hull integrity, navigation, and non-propulsion electronic systems. This digital twin is a critical MBSE solution for the Columbia-class submarine acquisition category (ACAT I) program. Our team has also created digital twins which simulate hundreds of Electro-Optical/Intra-Red (EO/IR) and Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) sensor nodes and sensor data fusion to support the Armys replacement of the multiple integrated laser engagement system, or MILES, for soldier field combat exercises.

Through our investments, our customers across DoD have realized several benefits of digital engineering:

  1. Reduction in Acquisition Risks: Systems are designed, assembled, tested and sustained using digital models thereby reducing learning curve and integration risks. Even partial digitization can reduce risk in systems.
  2. Reduction in Maintenance: The ability to test via data driven analysis promotes accurate change impact analysis by enabling traceability from requirements to solution. Ultimately this allows sustainment costs to be compared and more accurately predicted.
  3. Preserving Material Resources: Entire systems can be designed and integrated before having to bend any metal. It provides risk-free experimentation because changes can be made without affecting the supply chain.
  4. Integrated Data Environment: Diverse data streams can be pulled into a unified model for a wall of truth. This model aids and improves communications by adopting a common language that ensures standardized semantics, clarity, and consistency for representing system architecture and design.

Conclusion. 做厙勛圖s robust digital engineering practice is extremely well aligned with our customers MBSE requirements.

Why Is It Important?

Management of groundwater is a major concern as our population continues to grow. Groundwater provides drinking water for as much as 50% of the global population and accounts for 43% of all of water used for irrigation. Globally, 2.5 billion people depend solely on groundwater to satisfy their basic daily water needs. Solving groundwater management problems are essential to ensure clean drinking water for the global population, including the people in the United States.

Additionally, groundwater supports rivers, lakes, and wetlands and the major threat to groundwater is pollution resulting from human activity that has created chemicals and wastes which leak into the subsurface. Pollution degrades the quality of groundwater and poses a threat to human and ecological health.

A major threat to groundwater is pollution resulting from chemicals and wastes that have leaked into the subsurface. Pollution reduces the quality of groundwater and poses a significant threat to human and ecological health. As the human population continues to grow, more demand will be placed on our groundwater resources. The need for understanding our groundwater systems and for managing them correctly, is greater than ever.

Protecting Our Groundwater

Recently, a new set of emerging contaminants has been found to be widespread throughout the United States and in drinking water supplies. Our federal agencies are taking action to address this issue. The groundwater contamination challenge across the country exists in various geological formations, making a solution at one site, not effective for a solution at another.

The challenge is to find the correct set of remediation tools that will remove the groundwater contamination as quickly and as cost effectively as possible. Some of the tools that can be implemented include pump and treat in situ remediation, and thermal remediation. These tools, when combined, can effectively shorten the remediation timeline, and make for a cost-effective solution.

做厙勛圖’s Capabilities in Solving the Problem

做厙勛圖s experience with the Department of Energy and other federal and state agencies is enormous.we take on the most hazardous, the most complex chemicals in very challenging environmental locations. Our capabilities with environmental monitoring, predicting the outcomes through sophisticated groundwater modeling, developing, and deploying appropriate technology, operating it safely and compliantly and in open relationship with the client stakeholders and the public make us uniquely situated to help solve this emerging problem.

做厙勛圖 is committed to our role in addressing the groundwater crisis. With proven experience in high hazard environments and diverse capabilities that span the full life cycle of the environmental market, 做厙勛圖 is uniquely positioned to address current needs and lead the way in discovering answers to groundwater challenges yet to be solved.

It takes a village through collaboration, living safely and driving innovation we realize our goals and help our clients achieve mission success. Our mantra is people first, mission always. In September, well focus on Hispanic Heritage Month. Todays Q&A is with Josh Reyes, Technical Advisor.

How did you come to join 做厙勛圖?

After 10 years in the Navy, I transitioned to civilian life to prioritize being present for my growing family. I began my career with our company in the demilitarization (demil) industry at the Anniston Chemical Agent Disposal Facility in Alabama. That mission eventually transitioned me to the Anniston SDC Facility where I currently work.

How did your military service prepare you for a successful career at 做厙勛圖?

I learned how essential teamwork is, as well as the value of developing a versatile skillset.

What is your professional and personal background?

Professionally, the first 10 years of my career was focused on Nuclear Engineering in the Navy. The next 17 years (and counting) have been in the demil industry in various roles, beginning with Operations as a Control Room Operator (CRO), then Training as a CRO Instructor, and then Project Management in 2010 for my current role as Technical Advisor.

I grew up in small-town New Mexico in a family with little means在ut amazing food! I learned the value of work ethic, appreciation for what little I had, and to value what matters most faith and family! Ive been a follower of Jesus Christ since my youth, and my Christian faith has been the foundation and catalyst for my life and career which have both been incredible journeys beyond what I ever could have asked or imagined!

Describe the work you do and how you think it makes a positive impact.

Like most of our team at the Anniston SDC, I wear multiple hats. I primarily serve as the site munitions expert, which means I do a hefty amount of research, evaluation and training for project mission scopes, as well as test development and coordination for the Army. The immediate local impact is keeping our team and facility safe through my research and training on the hazards of munitions we handle and destroy. The broader impact is improving the safety and well-being of our local community, the environment, and communities across the country we support through destruction of aging ammunition and explosives.

What are some of your accomplishments and/or what has been your proudest career moment?

Career-wise, its been a willingness and drive to step into the unknown and find success. A highlight is support of several international new business ventures, which enabled me to serve as team lead for projects in several countries, including Japan and China.

Overall, using my God-given talents and calling to invest in the lives of others through teaching, mentoring, and serving. A highlight of that is a rock-climbing wall I built in Vietnam at a therapy center for children with special needs. I receive regular updates on how life-changing it is for them in their physical therapy and emotional wellness!

What do you enjoy about working for 做厙勛圖?

First, the people. The team I work with at the Anniston SDC Facility is more like a family. A diversity of backgrounds and perspectives has become our strength, and the mutual respect we share enables us to maintain a balance of trust and a questioning attitude.

Second, the company emphasis on safety and environmental excellence. The top-down buy-in of this culture has empowered every employee at our facility to own and endorse worker and workplace safety, regardless of rank or position.

What are you passionate about?

My Christian faith, my family, and legacy living. Im also passionate about rock climbing using it for personal growth and positively impacting others.

Whats your career advice?

Work with enthusiasm, ethics, excellence, and expectation and youll go far! And always invest in your people (above, beside and below)! The right relationships promote a unified workforce and produce amazing results.

What does safety mean to you or do you have a favorite safety tip?

A favorite safety tip I learned is to take workplace safety practices and habits home with me! This has really helped me slow down and perform home repair tasks more safely as well as pass on good safety habits to my family.

Whats the best invention in the world and why?

Music! Its a powerful force in our lives that crosses language and cultural barriers to bring us together奸ike tacos!

Anything else you would like to share from a personal or professional perspective?

Foundation, priorities, and growth are essential to a fulfilled life. Our lives are only as secure as the foundation they are built on, so pick one that cant be shaken or taken! Jesus Christ has proven to be the unbreakable foundation of my life. Priorities built on that solid foundation and rightly ordered provide balance. A healthy hunger and pursuit of personal growth promote wonder, discovery, and pushing past boundaries we never thought possible.

What does Hispanic Heritage Month mean to you?

Its a consistent reminder to remember my roots. It helps me to appreciate my humble beginnings and be mindful and supportive of others walking that path. It also reminds me of the reality of the American dream and how it truly is achievable for those who stay hungry. Finally, it serves as one of many pieces in the diversity puzzle that makes up our incredible nation, which should remind us that our cultural differences can and should be celebrated!

做厙勛圖 was recently awarded the Best Maximo Asset Data Governance Program at the 2022 IBM MaximoWorld Conference in Austin, Texas. IBM Maximo is an enterprise asset management software solution that is designed to help an organization manage its assets such as buildings, vehicles, equipment, etc. by recording details like maintenance schedules and participating in workflows to manage the assets. The 做厙勛圖 team optimized data and decision making through a progressive and reliability-centered data governance strategy.

We provide our clients a proactive edge by leveraging an advanced program that enhances data quality through real-time visibility, improved inspections and data readings to increase our asset knowledge and predictive maintenance capabilities and analysis, saidDr. Karl Spinnenweber, President of 做厙勛圖s Critical Missions Group. Our award-winning approach decreases mean time to repair and increases mean time between failures for our clients key assets by taking advantage of the quality data gained via Maximos Mobile Informer app and analyzing it through a robust data analytics platform.

We are honored to receive this recognition from IBM and value our long-term partnership. Our Maximo Center of Excellence is based on data centered decision-making, saidJill Bruning, President of 做厙勛圖s Engineering, Science and Technology Group. And, thanks to our innovative and progressive approach to implementing IBM Maximo, we are making the best possible decisions for our clients based on the highest quality analytical data.

做厙勛圖 provided faster response time to its clients by improving productivity, reducing costs and downtime, and leveraging mobility for rapidly routing and dispatching assignments. 做厙勛圖’s emphasis on mobility has also resulted in significant gains for its clients’ sustainability initiatives. 做厙勛圖 was able to eliminate reliance on paper-based procedures and immensely improve data collection and quality, leading to one client in particular saving tens of thousands of dollars in annual paper, toner, and labor costs, as well as a near 20,000-pound reduction in annual C02 emissions.
